Happy 4th of July, everyone! It's Independence Day - what better day to declare your independence from the ordinary? Enough with the magazine fitness programs. Enough with the miracle diets. Enough with impersonal gyms that are really only interested in your dues and fees. (Why is it that health clubs only seem to think that, for all that money, they're only responsible for providing you the opportunity to reach your goals, instead of for providing a personal plan that will actually help you make the changes you want? Will the club refund your dues if you don't get the results you want? The ones you stated clearly when you sat down with the membership rep? Hmm. I think not.
Sure, the clubs have trainers, and machines, and classes targeted at every possible demographic... but you have to look hard for a trainer who will push you to do 'more and different' - particularly in a club setting where it's really easy to just rely on the machine circuit, or on the most recent fad the trainer has found. (Seriously, I know trainers who found a program that they liked in 2001 - and they still have all their clients doing it seven years later)
Don't get me wrong; kettlebells are great. So is CrossFit and Spinning and BodyPump... but not the same program every week, every month for years on end. The body - your muscles and metabolism - crave and need change in order to make change. Find a trainer who will not only listen to what you want, but will implement a program in which change is a constant (ooooh, that's deep!) in order to help you get where yo really want to go - and you've found a gem.
Which is, of course, why I like bootcamp classes so much. There's always a way to change the class to further challenge the group. Running hills is different than lunging across a parking lot is different than push-up/squat interval training. Change is good!
Wasn't it our Founding Fathers... okay; that might be a bit dramatic. Suffice to say that they wanted change too. Do something different to get something different!
Change your workout, change your body, change yor life... ASAP!
